Hey – how was your week?

I am in Milan for Design Week as you read this, so no doubt I am feeling tired and inspired in equal measure!

I will tell you all about that on my return, but in the meantime, here are this weekend's Read/Watch/Listen recommendations...

Enjoy!

Read/Watch/Listen

READ >>> I bought Cal Newport's latest book Slow Productivity on a whim in South Kensington Books when I was in London recently and I'm so glad I did. He starts by arguing that traditional measures of productivity aren't relevant to modern work and therefore we tend to measure it simply by how busy we are – instead of questioning whether the work we are doing is actually important. To make real progress he suggests instead focusing on: doing fewer things, working at a natural pace, and obsessing over quality. I need to read it again!

WATCH >>> How do schools of fish swim in harmony? How do the tiny cells in your brain give rise to the complex thoughts, memories, and consciousness that are you? Oddly enough, those questions have the same general answer. Don't you just love the interconnectedness of nature?! Nathan S. Jacobs explains the concept of emergence in this beautifully animated TED Talk.

LISTEN >>> I have recently discovered Change in Nature and want to hoover up everything they offer! While I debate whether to book a Mayday retreat that involves walking 10 miles of the Cornish coast path every day for four days interspersed with singing, foraging, wild swimming and meditating (it's got to be a yes, right?!), I recommend giving their podcast a listen! ;)

Have a beautiful weekend.

Stay curious, imperfect and defiantly hopeful,

P.S. We have 12 new short courses on the Making Design Circular website and I would LOVE you to check them out. As a newsletter subscriber, you are entitled to 10% off – use discount code MMXYYHEAQG, which I have generated just for you,

P.P.S. When I share a book, it's often an affiliate link to Bookshop.org – a socially conscious way to buy books online. They dedicate most of their profits to supporting independent bookshops, authors, and publications that cover books. Authors can become affiliates and earn 10% of every purchase made from their Bookshop sales, with a matching 10% going to support independent bookshops, so if you buy anything through those links, you can count that as your good deed for the day. Dyb, dyb, dyb! ;)
